Choose a brief check-in and record what tinnitus interrupted. You do not need to keep checking the sound throughout the day.
Choose what you want the diary to answer
You might want to describe sleep disruption, difficulty concentrating, or changes in the sound. Pick the question before adding fields. A broad “How was today?” can be harder to interpret than a concrete activity.
NIDCD describes tinnitus as a symptom with multiple possible causes and effects on everyday life. A journal does not determine the cause or show which treatment will work.
Keep loudness and distress distinct
A sound can seem noticeable without being equally distressing every time. If you record both, label them separately and use the same personal scale. The scale is a self-report, not a calibrated hearing measurement.
Evening check-in: sound noticed while reading; concentration interrupted twice; distress lower after moving to a different room. No conclusion about cause or treatment.
Avoid a diary that demands constant listening
Choose a short routine that you can leave alone afterward. If tracking makes you focus on tinnitus more than you want to, reduce the detail or discuss another approach with a professional.
A sound app can be logged as something you tried, including its duration and whether it felt comfortable. Do not present a preferred sound or pitch match as proof that a therapy is effective.
Bring changes to a professional
Record when a new symptom began and which side you notice it on. New or changing tinnitus deserves professional advice. Sudden hearing loss needs urgent medical assessment; do not delay for an app test or diary.
Auresa includes sound features and daily check-ins. This website makes no claim that an app cures tinnitus or replaces an audiologist.
